Giving a Bird a Home

Caged Bird Rescue does its best to take in any bird which needs a good home. We have in the past taken in birds for a number of reasons ranging from time constraints to health issues. Birds given to us receive the best care and are placed be in an environment in which they can socialise with other birds allowing them to develop as they should.

The CBR Process:

All birds in our sanctuary are Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease tested. For this reason we keep all new birds in our Qurantine Area for a period of 6 weeks. During this time, they are sent to our vet to be tested for specific diseases.

Once out of quarantine, birds are placed into the Rehabilitation Area to:

  • Adjust the bird to our specific diet (on our diet they receieve all essentail nutrients).
  • Taught how to fly (if they cannot already).
  • Allowed to grow any plucked feathers.
  • Observed for anything that may have been missed earlier.

Once a bird is fit enough and in full health, they enter the larger aviaries where they reside enjoying the rest of their lives.

Please do understand that testing these birds is an expensive process an because we are run entirely by volunteers we cannot always cover the costs. For that reason may also for a contribution towards these costs.
